Meet Yeabsera Oli

Originally from Ethiopia, Yeabsera Oli has spent the last several years navigating life in the U.S., growing up in a variety of environments that shaped his adaptability and broadened his worldview. With each new place came new lessons—lessons that helped him thrive at The Kiski School, a boarding school in Pennsylvania that became a turning point in his academic and personal journey.

At Kiski, Yeabsera built more than just strong study habits—he developed leadership skills, formed lasting friendships, and stepped into a level of independence that set the stage for his next chapter. As captain of the tennis team, he led by example on and off the court, and while he won’t be competing at the collegiate level, he plans to stay active through intramural sports and casual play.

This fall, Yeabsera will begin his college journey at Montgomery College before transferring to the University of Maryland. He’s majoring in Biological Sciences with a minor in Public Health, combining his love for science with a deep passion for improving community health. He’s driven by a desire to make a real impact—whether through research, outreach, or innovation in the healthcare space.

When he’s not studying or serving his community, you’ll likely find Yeabsera behind a camera, capturing the world through his lens. He’s a gifted photographer, a fitness enthusiast, and someone who finds joy in exploring new places and connecting with others. Over the next four years, he aims to maintain a strong GPA, seek out research or internship opportunities, and continue growing as a leader.

He’s excited about the independence and connections that college will bring, even as he prepares for the challenge of balancing academics, work, and life. But if there’s one thing Yeabsera knows how to do, it’s persevere—with purpose and positivity.
